When Angelico Sacred Music composes a new composition, our primary goal is to present the most beautiful piece of musical art possible.
While this may sound obvious, it is actually slightly contrary to some conventions in the sacred music space. Creating the most beautiful art possible often means that the music is relatively difficult to perform, and such music will necessarily not be performed very often. There are a relatively small number of choirs in the U.S. with the ability to perform most of our compositions.
Accordingly, rather than giving away our copyright to a publisher who has minimal personal investment in getting the pieces recorded or performed, Angelico Sacred Music works directly with the best Catholic college choirs and cathedral choirs in America to bring our musical art to life. This allows us to have full creative control of our music in all its forms, and to develop a much more personal relationship with the groups that perform our music.
It's also worth noting that in our digital age, nearly every instance of music listening occurs digitally (rather than live). Accordingly, ASM's principal goal is not to have live performances of our pieces, but rather to produce great recordings our music that provide people all across the world with a little window into heaven.
Relatedly, Angelico Sacred Music uniquely operates with a patron-centric model, rather than sales-centric model. This provides us, together with our generous ASM patrons, the freedom we need to create the most beautiful compositions possible as we build a patrimony of American musical art unlike any other.
