Hybrid Voice Pairing

In many choral pieces, the Soprano 2 part functions as a harmonically lower side-kick to the Soprano 1, the Alto 2 similarly assists the Alto 1 part, etc. The pairing is somewhat predictable, and the second-part singers can feel bored or unimportant.

Not so at Angelico Sacred Music. While sometimes employing this traditional method of voice pairing, we use a variety of combinations to keep the music fresh and maximize interest for listeners and singers alike.

For example: this way the Alto 1s can be the star of the show in a way they rarely encounter in other pieces; the Alto 2s blend with the Tenor 1s for a male-female duet that brings a creative timbre to the melody; the Bass 2s can jump in to darken the chord when you don't expect it; and the Soprano 1s are given strategic rests throughout the piece, leaving them more free to sail into the stratosphere and open a window into heaven as they belt out those high notes.
